On the evening of January 12^th, invited by our hospital, Professor Li Yu from Hua Xi Stomatological Hospital of Sichuan University carried out a wonderful academic exchange with our teachers and students online. All postgraduate students and some teachers from the college participated in this academic lecture. The meeting was presided over by Professor Ren Liling, director of orthodontics, Lanzhou University Stomatological Hospital.

Professor Li Yu opened an academic feast in a humorous and youthful way, which was very interesting, just like the theme of this lecture – “Enjoying the Fun of Innovation of Scientific Research and Clinical”. Professor Li Yu believes that scientific research and clinical practice complement with each other. The purpose of scientific research is to solve clinical practice problems, while clinical practice provides directions for scientific research.

Based on his own scientific research experience, Professor Li Yu shared the “Joy” in scientific research: scientific research needs to be rigorous, the choice of each method must be well-founded, and the choice of materials and approaches must adhere to serving the research purpose. Compared to getting results, the process of discovering a “new world” is the happiest moment in scientific research, and it is “a reward for the passion of science”.

Professor Li Yu said that a graduate student in the new era, needs to go through some scientific research training, have fun and learn to enjoy it. Firstly to raise scientific questions, based on clinical needs. Secondly to learn to screen the literature, find out the fact and essence from the mists, and develop the best and feasible research methods. Finally to be brave enough to discover drawbacks and have the courage to innovate and improve. Do not dodge difficulties which you should use your brain to think over carefully.

After the lecture, the students were enthusiastic and had a warm and full discussion with Professor Li Yu on the topic research and scientific research methods. Professor Ren Liling summarized the content of the lecture and conveyed her gratitude to Professor Li Yu for his enlightening lecture. She hoped that in the future scientific research work, all students will have the courage to question, maintain the ability of literature screening and pondering, and make progress through continuous learning.
